Brief description

The Atoll Development for Sustainable Livelihoods Project aims to:

  • Contribute to the formulation of Government policies on local development and further operationalise them through the development of systems, procedures and guidelines.

  • Contribute to capacity development - individual, organisational and societal - in the ADCs, IDCs, Atoll Offices, Island Offices, WDCs, NGOs, credit institutions, CBOs and individual citizens.

  • Contribute directly to poverty alleviation through provision of financial support for development infrastructure and improved access to financial services.

The project will contribute significantly to three major outcomes:

  1. Planning efforts at the island level enhanced and reformed to incorporate community level perspectives and aspirations, including of women, reflecting a sustainable ecosystem management approach

  2. Local development plans reflect national development directions, are gender sensitive, and feed into the national budget planning process and utilization

  3. Increased access of island communities to finance income generating activities (poor, women, youth) and community infrastructure.
